How To Take Photographs With Your ComputerChapter 3: Photograph File FormatsWhen you get your picture into your computer, you may be given a choice of file formats, such as: I do not recommend using GIF unless you have no other choice. This is because GIF only allows 256 colors, whereas the other formats can have up to 16,777,216 colors. If you intend to publish your photograph on the web, then the best formats to do so are JPEG, or possibly PNG. However, if you intend to edit or resize your picture, then it may not be the best idea to initially save into JPEG: This is because JPEG is a lossy format, and if you are making edits and saving each time, you could lose some detail after each edit. Instead, start with BMP or PNG, and only after you have finishing make all your edits, convert into JPEG. Please also note that some JPEG compatible software, may give you an option to vary the Quality of the image: The better the Quality, the better the picture will come out, but the larger the file will be. Be warned that low Quality settings may result in your image being distorted. Related Web Sites:
